Marktplein met kiosk
Marktplein met kiosk (1935)
Locatie: Hoek Gasthuisstraat/Marktstraat

Locatie: Corner Gasthuisstraat/Marktstraat
The market square has always played a central role in Dutch towns such as Kaatsheuvel. During the 19th century it was particularly busy. Markets and events took place, many local music companies performed at the kiosk and from 1969 it housed the town hall. In 2015, townhall was moved to Het Klavier, a multifunctional building for local society. Despite Loon op Zand with its church villages Kaatsheuvel and De Moer having become a single entity in 1810, it only received a municipal coat of arms on April 16, 1914. This consists of three golden horns that commemorate the first noble family to be granted this honour: the Van Horne family. The three shoemakers’ hammers in the municipal coat of arms refer to the shoe industry that has been very important over many years.
